Introduction to Product Owner

(PA-IPO) Program


This 6-month program prepares new Product Owners for learning the fundamentals of Scrum and passing the Professional Scrum Product Owner I (PSPO I) certification exam through Scrum.org, and then builds on the fundamentals to accelerate the learning curve on how to manage the vision, backlog, and stakeholders of a product, ultimately leading to the knowledge necessary to achieve a passing score on the PIVOCITY Academy Introduction to Product Owner (PA-IPO) Certification.


The course offers actionable tools for building market winning products and explores practical ways of addressing Agile and Scrum anti-patterns.

Attending the class prepares individuals to take the exam and become a certified Professional Scrum Product Owner I (PSPO I) through Scrum.org after the first 2-day session, and attaining the PIVOCITY Academy Introduction to Product Owner Certification (PA-ISM) upon completion of the curriculum.

  • Product Roadmapping, Storyboarding


Meeting 4 (2 Virtual Meetings):

  • Retrospective from previous meetings

  • User Stories

    • INVEST in a good user story

    • Types of User Stories

    • Personas

    • Acceptance Criteria

    • Guidelines for Good User Stories

    • What is a User Story, and what a User Story is not


Meeting 5 (2 Virtual Meetings):

  • Retrospective from previous meetings

  • The Product Backlog

    • DEEP Qualities

    • Backlog Refinement

    • Prioritizing the Backlog

    • Understanding Sizing

    • How to deal with Non-Functional Requirements


Meeting 6 (2 Virtual Meetings):

  • Retrospective from previous meetings

  • Planning Releases

  • Collaborating in Sprint Meetings

  • Making the final transition into the Product Owner Role

Exam Details

  • Exam Name: PIVOCITY Academy Introduction to Product Owner (PA-IPO) Exam

  • Exam Format: Multiple Choice; Multiple Select

  • Exam Delivery: Web-based (single-browser), closed book, no outside assistance, timed

  • Exam Access: Candidates can access the exam upon completion of the PIVOCITY Academy Introduction to Product Owner course

  • Exam cost: First exam attempt is included as part of the course registration fee and course completion if the exam is taken within 30 days of course completion. Each retake attempt costs $250.

  • Exam Duration: Once the exam begins candidates have 120 minutes to complete the exam

  • Number of Questions: 60

  • Passing Score: 51 out of 60 (85%)

  • Language: English

  • Retake policy: Second attempt on the exam (first retake) can be done immediately after the first attempt. The third attempt requires a 10-day wait. The fourth attempt requires a 30-day wait. Contact support@pivocity.com for any retake questions.
